Patty and I vacationed in Maine in '85, staying in a log cabin in Bangor belonging to the fine pianist Jim Heffernan on our way to Bar Harbor.

The original group Mindzeye came together in '85 or '86 soon after I moved to Massachusetts from NY in 1984 and was a huge step for me in terms of songwriting and performing. The group included Andy Clark (guitar, vocals), Fred Robinson (drums), John Quinn (bass), Carl Moore (bass, vocals), and me (keys, vocals).

Sluggo was a regionally known R&B band long before I showed up in Worcester. I met the guys almost immediately after moving to Massachusetts and started sitting in on Keys. With Sluggo I explored fundamentals of the Blues, honky-tonk, Soul, etc. Sluggo covered artists such as Clapton, Kinks, Warren Zevon, The Band, The Beatles, Little Feat, and Southside Johnny. We still get together once a year or so for reunions and benefits. Over the years, the member list grew long but the core of the group is Jim Chanis (lead guitar), Bob Murphy (lead vocals, guitar), Jeff Hilyard (bass), Randy Markerian (drums) and yours truly on keys.
